At today’s Xbox showcase, a bunch of great-looking games were announced—along with a few that, frankly, I’ve already forgotten the names of. Mostly the anime-looking ones.
In an unexpected twist, SEGA shocked everyone with the announcement that all of the games from today’s showcase would somehow be coming to the Sega Dreamcast. Yes, you read that right. SEGA, in a move that could only be described as "out of the blue," stated that the "timing felt right" for a comeback—aggressive, and, according to them, “sort of half-assed.”
What’s even more surprising? SEGA chose to break this news via MSN News, which, fun fact, has been defunct for years. So… not exactly making headlines.
Many of the games shown today were impressive next-gen titles—except for Wheel World, of course (don’t ask). SEGA has confirmed they’ll be using a brand-new de-rez system that will somehow limit these games to a groundbreaking 144p resolution, a feat once thought impossible for video. But wait—there’s more! They’ve also reduced the frames per second to match the pace of “a PowerPoint presentation,” according to an unnamed spokesperson.
While it’s certainly odd for SEGA to pop up with a move like this, it actually kind of makes sense when you consider they’ve got nothing left to lose at this point.
